First of all, why not? But I think some employers may need more justification than that.
We, the tattooed and pierced, are really not that different from the average human being. Only we have balls, gusto, a fire inside us. We voluntarily went into a situation and paid for pain. This pain isn't some impulse control problem, it's the good kind of pain. The kind that reminds you that you are committing to something, forever. Needless to say, this means we also do not have commitment issues. Something has happened to us, we stand for something or we are just downright hilarious. A symbol of our souls we fearlessly have chosen to display on our largest organ, our skin. Some suspect that you cannot be taken seriously with tattoos, piercings or other body modifications. I disagree. This superstition is judgmental. Someone with tattoos can get out of bed, show up to work on time, and put in a quality days work just like the next guy. He could also be lazy, smelly and a bad employee, just like the next guy.
More of the tattooed and pierced are entering the workforce. More of us are inclined to prove the stereotype of our generation wrong. More and more of us are expressing our secrets and fears. We have stories we want to tell. So please, the untattooed and the curious, never hesitate to ask us about our tattoos, we'd love to share that little piece of our souls with you.
